Hey, want to be a ref?

By Post Staff

If you are a former athlete or perhaps just love sports — football in particular — the East Coast Football Officials Association is looking for you.

The ECFOA will be conducting weekly instructional clinics and meetings throughout the summer leading up to the beginning of the football season in August. So far, the turnout has been better than in recent years, according to ECFOA President Ronnie Wood.

“We had a meeting (Tuesday) night and we had 57 new recruits, which is phenomenal,” Wood said. “We don’t usually get that many. But we don’t want to stop there. We’re always looking for young blood. But the new guys need to get on board in the next two weeks.”

Wood said anyone interested in attending the clinics and becoming a football official should go to the Web site and fill out an online application and someone will contact you.

Hey, it’s a great way to be involved in football and our local youth and make some extra money to pay for these out-of-control gas prices. So give it a try. Be a ref!
