OH’s Kirkland won’t visit colleges in season

By Jason Lieser

Olympic Heights coach Mitch Hengold was surprised when star running back Antione Kirkland said he won’t be visiting any prospective colleges this fall.

“Nobody would be mad at him if he wanted to,” Hengold said.

Kirkland (5-11, 192 pounds, 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash) has offers from Northern Illinois, Illinois State and Eastern Kentucky and interest from several other programs, but he has decided to hold off on traveling until Christmas break.

“I’m trying to focus on the season and take care of the team first,” he said. “I don’t want to go on visits during the season because I want to be here for the team.”

Kirkland has been dominant in two games this season, rushing for 313 yards and four touchdowns. He has drawn interest from Troy, Colorado State, Middle Tennessee and Western Michigan.
