Pahokee CB Jarvis Byrd to NC State

By Jason Lieser

The Pahokee Blue Devils have a fifth verbal commit, with cornerback Jarvis Byrd declaring his intent to play for North Carolina State.

It has been a difficult season for Byrd, who was Norman Griffith’s first cousin. After Griffith was killed in September, Byrd honored him by wearing his No. 7 at the game in South Carolina.

“He’s a really happy kid now,” Blue Devils coach Blaze Thompson said. “And obviously, having five commits, it shows you this is a really good team.”

QB Nu’Keese Richardson commited to UF in May. In August, Michigan got pledges from RB Vincent Smith and LB Brandin Hawthorne. Offensive lineman Jaquan Bentley said earlier this month he will play for Alabama State.

The two big-ticket items left on sale are LB Carlos Lammons (choosing among Middle Tennessee State, Buffalo, FAU and a few others) and DB Willie Hickman ( offers from FAU and FIU; interest from Minnesota and Kansas State). Lammons and Hickman are being recruited as defensive backs.
