FSU Looks to Steal Pahokee’s Byrd; Johnson Gets Fifth Offer

By Jason Lieser

Think the alarms went off in Tallahassee when ACC rival North Carolina State swooped in and got a verbal commitment from Pahokee cornerback Jarvis Byrd?

Byrd committed to the Wolfpack last month, but Florida State officially offered him a scholarship this week. Byrd has dreamed of playing for the Seminoles since he was a little boy. It’s fair to say he’s back on the market at this point and Florida State is leading candidate to land him.

Byrd also has offers from a total of nine schools now, including Wake Forest, Southern Mississippi and FAU. Georgia, Florida and Michigan have shown interest, but have not yet offered.

Pahokee has been swarmed by college coaches this week, and Georgia gave junior wide receiver De’Joshua Johnson (who now plays quarterback) his fifth scholarship offer. He previously drew offers from Miami, Florida, Florida State and Michigan. Like Byrd, Johnson has always wanted to be a Seminole.
