Football districts finalized

By Jason Lieser

After months of deliberation and speculation, the FHSAA released its final realignment plan for football districts. This format will be in place for the next two seasons, and then the state will begin this process again.

John Carroll was the only local school approved to move districts. Port St. Lucie and St. Andrew’s appealed their placement but the requests were denied.

District 13-5A, a three-team district that guarantees either Wellington or Spanish River will be a playoff team in 2009, remained intact. It is one of five three-team districts in the area.

Conversely, District 7-2B will have nine teams, including Pahokee. That will be a frustration for the Blue Devils, who typically schedule as many big schools as they can during their non-district slate. With eight district games and the Muck Bowl, Pahokee will have only one more opponent to schedule next season.
