The girls basketball schedule is packed with strong match ups this week, starting tonight with Atlantic traveling to West Boca.
Here’s how the Top 10 shaped up this week. The only major change was Lakes swapping places with Gardens for the No. 1 spot.
1. Palm Beach Lakes (13-5)
2. Palm Beach Gardens (14-4)
3. Palm Beach Central (17-2)
4. Trinity Christian (17-2)
5. Atlantic (18-5)
6. Cardinal Newman (18-1)
7. West Boca Raton (17-2)
8. Royal Palm Beach (11-7)
9. King’s Academy (16-3)
10. Lincoln Park Academy (18-1)
Also considered: Fort Pierce Central, Lake Worth Christian, Jupiter, Dwyer
Tonight’s game at West Boca will probably have a big impact on next week’s rankings, depending on what happens. West Boca has been playing very well but Atlantic was beat by Miami Norland late last week by just one. Norland is the No. 1 team in the state in Class 6A. If West Boca loses, the loss isn’t likely to drop them much, if at all.
Wednesday night brings yet another tangle between those District 9-Class 6A powers when Central goes to Gardens. It’s hard to call any of the games between Central, Gardens, Lakes, Royal Palm and maybe even Jupiter.
I’m not really sure what to think about Royal Palm Beach on a week to week basis. It seems like for every improbable win, they have a head-shaking loss so it sort of evens out.
Gardens has already locked up the No. 1 seed for the district tournament and the crazy thing is Royal Palm is No. 2. There’s one last game that matters for seeding and that’s Lakes at Jupiter Thursday night. Right now Lakes is No. 3 and Jupiter is No. 5 and if Jupiter pulls the upset the two will switch places. That might be a long shot, but you never know. That game is worth keeping an eye on.
