Some of the area’s best players got a step closer to getting a chance to play in the McDonald’s All-American Games, which are being held in Miami for the first time this year.

Altavious Carter of Grandview Prep, Michael DeSimone of Park Vista, William Fairchild of Suncoast, Ramon Galloway of Dwyer, Tony Watson II of Palm Beach Gardens, Quamain Foreman of Martin County, and David Jeune of Okeechobee have been nominated for the boys team.

Tracnesha Lundy of Fort Pierce Westwood and Sasha Bernard of Atlantic have been nominated for the girls team.

These players have entered the national pool from which the teams will be selected. The games are on April 1, at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables on University of Miami’s main campus.

Twenty-four boys and 24 girls are selected each year out of a national pool of 2,400 for the games that have featured the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Alonzo Mourning, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Seimone Augustus, Ivory Latta and Candace Parker.

The games are televised live on ESPN. Tickets are on sale now starting at $25 with proceeds benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida.
