Pahokee’s prized recruit Nu’Keese Richardson, who was committed to Florida, will stretch the suspense as long as possible. He is scheduled to announce his decision between the Gators and Tennessee around 1 p.m. or 1:30, but there is a possiblity he might not sign today.
At this point, it no longer seems accurate to label him “committed” to anybody. There have been media reports claiming they know he will pick Florida and others staking their credibility on Richardson opting for Tennessee. Neither is accurate.
Richardson held a big ceremony in Pahokee last May — inviting family, friends, teammates and as many TV cameras as possible — to declare his intent to play at Florida. He remained committed to the Gators until Tennessee jumped in the race. Other than Gainesville, his only other visit was last weekend to Tennessee.
Pahokee’s signing day press conference is not until 1:30 p.m. today, but Blue Devil other than Richardson already faxed in his letter of intent early this morning. Richardson held out because he has not decided, coach Blaze Thompson said.
One of the main concerns for Richardson is Florida has five receivers who were freshmen last season. Thompson also said he heard Gators coaches have told several players they “will be the next Percy Harvin,” which was one of their many appeals to Richardson last spring.
Richardson was responsible for 20 total touchdowns as a quarterback, receiver and return man for Pahokee last season. He was voted all-state and is the third-ranked recruit in this area.
