Dwyer junior Matt Elam, the Post‘s Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, has been picked for the U.S. Army All-America Game in San Antonio. Royal Palm Beach wide receiver Chris Dunkley accepted an invitation to the 2010 Under Armor game in Orlando.

Elam played safety, linebacker, running back and receiver last season. He had nearly 100 tackles on defense, and piled up 1,207 yards and 21 touchdowns on offense. He committed to the University of Florida last fall. In addition to his Post honors, Elam won the Lou Groza Player of the Year as a junior.

Dunkley (5-11, 175) is the area’s top receiver in next year’s recruiting class and has offers from Florida, Miami, Michigan, West Virginia and Georgia, among others. He was invited to both games but opted for Under Armor. He caught 28 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns as a junior.

Elam and Dunkley were chosen as part of the early selection process, which involves a small number of elite recruits. Other players will be picked between now and December.

Panthers linebacker Gerald Christian is a strong candidate for the U.S. Army game, too, but has not been offered a roster spot.
