FHSAA girls basketball reclassification creates interesting districts

By Jason Lieser

The tentative district reclassifications have been released for basketball and soccer and at least in girls basketball, the changes are going to make for an intriguing next two seasons.

The most notable shakeups are in Class 6A. This season, 9-6A was a tight race with Palm Beach Lakes, Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach Central, Royal Palm Beach and district champion Jupiter.

For the next two seasons if the usual big school powers don’t have a downturn, 9-6A and 14-5A are going to be the districts to watch.

Here’s how they’re going to look if this plan is finalized without any changes:

9-6A
DISTRICT 9
(9 schools)
Atlantic (Delray Beach)
Boca Raton
Jupiter
Palm Beach Central (Wellington)
Palm Beach Gardens
Park Vista (Lake Worth)
Royal Palm Beach
Santaluces (Lantana)
Seminole Ridge (Loxahatchee)

14-5A
DISTRICT 14
(8 schools)
Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens)
Forest Hill (West Palm Beach)
John I. Leonard (Greenacres)
Lake Worth
Palm Beach Lakes (West Palm Beach)
Spanish River (Boca Raton)
Wellington
West Boca Raton
