For the second straight season, Palm Beach Central has one of the state’s most coveted recruits. This time, though the drama is unlikely to last as long.
Broncos offensive lineman Shane McDermott (6-3, 250) recently was offered scholarships by Stanford and Central Florida, bringing his total number of offers to eight. Miami, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt are in that group, too.
McDermott is a junior and plans to announce his decision early this summer. Last season, teammate Jon Bostic was the area’s top-rated recruit and waited until early January to pick the Florida Gators.
McDermott was second team all-area last season as Palm Beach Central’s left tackle. He graded out at 95% last year.
Colorado State also offered McDermott, which could reunite him with his brother Tyler. Tyler also played for Palm Beach Central and now is a redshirt sophomore for the Rams. Tyler McDermott (6-2, 265) is a redshirt sophomore and one of 11 Florida players on the roster. Former Pahokee wide receiver Jyrone Hickmann, who will be a senior next season, is on the team, too.
As of now, Shane McDermott plans to make official or unofficial visits to Miami, Florida International, South Florida, UCF, Florida State, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and Colorado State. He also will visit UF if the Gators show legitimate interest in signing him.
