Track coach Jay Seider elected to Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame

Longtime area track coach Jay Seider has been elected to the Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame along with seven other coaches and athletes from around the state.


Seider is the girls track and field coach at Royal Palm Beach. He was Glades Central’s track coach for 28 and also served as the football and basketball coach before going to Royal Palm Beach in 2003.

His track teams at Glades Central won 10 state championships, give heptathlon state championships and 18 regional championships. Seider had previously served as the president of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association and is a member of the Florida Track & Field and FACA Halls of Fame.

The other inductees for this year’s class are former Cocoa High School and New York Giants football player Bob Anderson, former Tivoli High School football standout Willie “Boogie” Hall, former Madison High School athlete Carl Joseph, longtime Lakeland Ledger prep sports writer Durward Buck, Bartow High School softball coach Glenn Rutenbar, Oak Ridge High School girls track and field coach Bill Stamper, and former Lincoln High School football coach David Wilson.

The 2009 Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Awards Banquet will be held April 26 in Gainesville.
