Boca Raton asks Eddie Giersbrook to resign

By Jason Lieser

As Boca Raton waits for the ruling on an FHSAA investigation into its football program, the school asked coach Eddie Giersbrook to resign. He is expected to do so tomorrow morning.

The decision was not solely related to the investigation, which centers around Giersbrook’s involvement in the transfer of quarterback Eddie Sullivan from Park Vista to Boca Raton, but that was a factor in his release, a source said.

The move obviously is devastating for Giersbrook, a Boca Raton alum who held what the source said was his “dream job” for the past two seasons. During that time, the Bobcats went 15-6 and made the post-season last year at 8-2 before ending the season with a loss at Fort Pierce Westwood.

The school has been considering Giersbrook’s future since December or earlier, which roughly coincides with the time new broke that Park Vista was filing a complaint with the FHSAA.

Girls basketball coach Larry Green will assume interim duties of the program and informed the team today.

Giersbrook did not return phone messages Tuesday.
