PSL’s Zachary Herold named to U.S. U-17 CONCACAF men’s team

Port St. Lucie defender Zachary Herold was one of 20 players named to the U.S. Under-17 team, which will compete in the 2009 CONCACAF Under-17 Championships, April 21-May 2 in Tijuana, Mexico.


The four semifinalists at the tournament will qualify for the 2009 FIFA Under-18 World Cup in NIgeria Oct. 24-Nov. 15.

The 20 players are part of U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Residency Program where they train daily under coach Wilmer Cabrera and his assistants at the IMG Academies in Bradenton.

The U.S. plays a regional game against Cuba at 7 p.m. EST on April 21 at Estadio Caliente, then against Canada on April 23, and Honduras on April 25, also at 7 p.m. EST.

The top two finishers in Group A earn two of the four berths to Nigeria. They will also play one of the top two teams from Group B that consists of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Trinidad & Tobago. The semifinals are on April 20. The final and third place games are on May 2.
