Gerald Christian says he’ll join Elam at UF

By Jason Lieser

Less than a month ago, Dwyer linebacker Matt Elam predicted teammate Gerald Christian would follow him by committing to the Florida Gators this spring.

Elam was right.

Dwyer coach Jack Daniels confirmed Christian committed to UF, making him the fourth area player from the Class of 2010 to make an early decision. Elam picked the Gators last fall.

Christian (6-3, 225) was an all-area linebacker last season and earned second team all-state selection. He had 54 tackles and eight sacks as a junior. He will also join Elam at the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio in January.

Christian likely will play defensive end or tight end in college, and Elam is expected to play safety.

The other juniors who have committed are Palm Beach Central offensive lineman Shane McDermott (Miami) and Jupiter kicker Cody Parkey (Auburn).

Florida continues to target Treasure Coast linebacker Jeff Luc, an All-American who last month said the Gators are his leading choice. Luc visited the campus in Gainesville last week.

It is important to remember that these commitments are non-binding and we had at least three major recruits from this area de-commit last year. Nobody is official until they sign in February. However, the four current commits seem highly unlikely to change their minds.
