Sporting News names Matt Elam, Cody Parkey to all-2010 team

By Jason Lieser

Two of this area’s most prominent football recruits got another publicity boost this week.

The Sporting News released its pre-season all-2010 team this month, which featured Jupiter kicker Cody Parkey on offense and Dwyer linebacker Matt Elam on defense. Elam made the team as a defensive back (he is projected to play safety in college).

Elam was the all-area Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and earned all-state honors. He accepted an invitation to play in the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio.

Parkey was second-team all-area and all-state, finishing behind Palm Beach Central’s Patrick O’Donnell, a Cincinnati signee, on both teams. Parkey is extremely likely to be invited to one of the two major all-American bowls.

Both players made early commitments to college programs and have recently reaffirmed that they are not on the market. Parkey is committed to Auburn and Elam plans to play for Florida with Dwyer teammate Gerald Christian.
