Paul Meunier resigns after one year at Santaluces

By Jason Lieser

Santaluces football coach Paul Meunier resigned this afternoon, ending his stay at with the Chiefs after one season.

Meunier, 29, is leaving the Chiefs five days before they are scheduled to begin spring practice.

“It was quite surprising,” athletic director Bill Bretherick said. “It was just something he needed to do.”

Bretherick said assistant coach Daryl Drinkwater will take over in the interim and the rest of the staff will remain intact for the spring.

Santaluces went 4-6 in Meunier’s only year as head coach. The team went 9-15 over the previous three seasons.

“I thought he did an outstanding job,” Bretherick said. “He was a good football coach.”

Meunier confirmed his resignation but did not comment.

Prior to heading down to Lantana, Meunier was an assistant coach under Floyd Graham at Jensen Beach. Graham left earlier this month to become the head coach at Steinbrenner High in Tampa.

Meunier is the 10th area head football coach to resign or be fired since the end of the 2008 season.
