Suncoast’s Tony McQuay signs with FAMU track

By Jason Lieser

Suncoast Tony McQuay has signed a track scholarship with Florida A & M and the Rattlers have the McQuay family to thank for landing the highly-recruited senior.

Tony’s parents, Tony Sr. and Linda, are alumni. Tony Sr. was a drum major for the Marching 100, and Linda was a multi-sport athlete for the Rattlers. Tony’s 20-year-old sister Sada is already at FAMU.

McQuay is quite a steal for the Rattlers as he is going for gold in the 100, 200, and 400 at Saturday’s Class 2A state meet in Winter Park. He is one of the best 400 runners in the state in any class and was also being wooed by Georgia, Clemson, Middle Tennessee State and Savannah State.

He said he’ll also have a chance to play football at FAMU. McQuay played wide receiver and corner for Suncoast.
