Park Vista-Douglas series moved up to Thursday

By Jason Lieser

Park Vista’s baseball team got a little karma this week.

The Cobras, who raised no objection to Boca Raton’s request to play their regional semifinal in the afternoon to accommodate the Bobcats’ prom, got a similar gesture from Parkland-Douglas.

The schools will begin this week’s regional final, which is a best-of-three series, Thursday instead of Friday.

All FHSAA classifications originally were scheduled to play two games Friday, beginning at 1 p.m. or 4 p.m., and Game 3 (if necessary) Saturday at 1 p.m. Since Douglas doesn’t have lights, that series would started Friday at 1 p.m.

Starting that early Friday would have conflicted with Park Vista’s graduation ceremony, so the school asked to play the first game at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by Games 2 and 3 on Saturday.

Douglas said no because its prom is Saturday, but agreed to play two games Thursday, starting at 1 p.m. A possible Game 3 would be Friday at 4 p.m., giving Park Vista players sufficient time to participate in graduation and head south for the game. The FHSAA approved the schools’ joint plan.
