The annual Heath Evans Foundation 7-on-7 tournament takes place next month, and the 16-team field is finalized.
Local teams who accepted invitations are Dwyer, Glades Central, Jupiter Christian, Park Vista, King’s Academy, Glades Day, Benjamin and Cardinal Newman. Out-of-area competitors include Booker T. Washington, Ely, Seabreeze, Gulliver Prep, Miramar, Boyd Anderson, Naples and Mainland.
The tournament will be held June 20 at 9 a.m. at King’s Academy in West Palm Beach. Tickets are $5 each at the gate and benefit the foundation, which works with people affected by sexual abuse.
Evans, now with the New Orleans Saints, graduated from King’s Academy and played at Auburn before launching a nine-year NFL career. He has invited several of his pro football pals, including Randy Moss, Vince Wilfork and Matt Cassel
“I started this tournament because I wanted to bring something back to Palm Beach County while raising awareness and money for my foundation,” Evans said in a statement released by his foundation. “We expanded the tournament to include schools from around the state. This event gives the kids an opportunity to hear from NFL players about the integrity, discipline and character that are needed to help them reach the next level.”
Previous tournament champions were Jupiter Christian (2008), Pahokee (2007) and Glades Central (2006).
