Possible sports hernia has Chris Dunkley out at least a week

By Jason Lieser

Pahokee wide receiver Chris Dunkley will miss at least another week of practice due what he believes is a sports hernia.

Dunkley told the Post on Monday he is trying to remedy the injury with medication, but could require surgery. If surgery is not necessary, he might be back next week. Typical recovery time from the surgical procedure is eight weeks.

Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson said Dunkley had the injury before he transferred from Royal Palm Beach and added that the Blue Devils staff will be cautious about letting him return to action.

Truthfully, there is little need for Dunkley to practice this month if it means risking further injury. He is not eligible to play in Pahokee’s spring game against Boyd Anderson and will have all summer to acclimate to his new team.

Dunkley (5-11, 175, 4.3 seconds in the 40-yard dash) is ranked the No. 3 recruit locally and is one of the top receiver prospects in the nation. He caught 28 passes for 411 yards and five touchdowns as a junior with Royal Palm Beach.
