James Louis likely to go Gators soon

By Jason Lieser

Atlantic wide receiver James Louis, the No. 6 recruit in the area, told the Post he will probably commit after spring practices and “most likely” will choose the Florida Gators.

Louis is down to four other finalists: Ohio State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Minnesota.

Virginia Tech got an oral commitment from Atlantic quarterback Mark Leal earlier this month. Leal said it would be nice for the duo to stay together in college, but doubted that was a possibility for Louis. It still remains a very big long shot.

Minnesota, by the way, is Atlantic coach Andre Thaddies’ alma mater, though Thaddies said that is not a factor with any of his players.

Louis (6-0, 185) has long been expected to wind up with the Gators, although he has a long, growing list of scholarship offers. He was all-area as a junior, catching 43 passes for 846 yards and eight touchdowns.

If Florida gets a call from Louis, the Gators will have commitments from three of this area’s top six players. Dwyer linebackers Matt Elam and Gerald Christian already told the school they will sign.
