Thompson: Tennessee-Pahokee rift resolved

By Jason Lieser

Pahokee football coach Blaze Thompson said his school’s recent issues with Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin and his assistants have been resolved.

Thompson said Tennessee assistant coach Eddie Gran was in Pahokee on Tuesday, and facilitated a phone conversation between Kiffin and the mayor, as well as city commissioners. He then did the same thing at Pahokee High with principal Ariel Alejo.

Gran then attended the Blue Devils’ afternoon practice.

“It’s done,” Thompson said. “They’ve done everything they need to do. They’re allowed at practice and everything is hopefully back to normal.”

“I’m very happy. I’m glad the issue is resolved and we don’t have to concern ourselves with who can and can’t come to our practices and recruit our players.”

Alejo has not returned e-mails or voice messages seeking comment since he talked to the Post about his decision to bar Gran from the campus earlier this month.

Thompson said he spoke with Alejo after Gran’s visit and said Alejo is pleased with the outcome of today’s events.

“He said he’s glad that it’s over and he’s glad that Tennessee did what was right,” Thompson said. “They got everything ironed out.”
