Another football player transfers out of Royal Palm

By Jason Lieser

Over the past few years, Royal Palm Beach’s football team has been marked by the names Dangerfield and Pendergrass. Now one of those names is exiting the program.

Trey Pendergrass, the younger brother of former Wildcats star and current Wake Forest player Brandon Pendergrass, has transferred to Jupiter Christian.

Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers said Pendergrass, a junior-to-be who is expected to play wide receiver, recently enrolled at the school.

“He’s a good addition for us,” Powers said. “From what I’ve heard about him, he’s a very good kid.”

Malcolm Pendergrass, likely the Wildcats’ starting quarterback, is Trey Pendergrass’ cousin and is expected to stay at Royal Palm Beach.

Trey Pendergrass’ departure comes in the wake of wide receiver Chris Dunkley’s exit earlier this year. Dunkley, one of the nation’s top college prospects, transferred to Pahokee in late April.

“I’m disappointed by it, but I have nothing against Trey or Chris,” Wildcats coach Darren Studstill said. “I wish them both nothing but the best.”

Studstill said the transfers out of Royal Palm Beach have led him to start evaluating himself and his program, but did not elaborate on any potential changes.

Powers added that former Inlet Grove wide receiver T.J. Way transferred to Jupiter Christian as well and will play for the Eagles this fall.
