St. Andrew’s’ Matt Bellando, Park Vista’s Jamie Reeg named Florida Lacrosse Players of the Year; St. Andrew’s Jeff Goldberg is boys Coach of the Year

Three locals were honored as the state’s best when the Florida Dairy Farmers announced the results of the statewide vote for lacrosse.

Two members of the 2009 state champion St. Andrew’s Scots, who finished 24-0, were recognized in the statewide voting by coaches and members of the media.

Junior Matt Bellando of St. Andrew’s was named the Boys Player of the Year, finishing the season with a school record 101 goals and 38 assists. Bellando has 171 career goals and was named the Palm Beach Post Player of the Year for the second straight year.

St. Andrew’s boys coach Jeff Goldberg was named the 2009 Boys Coach of the Year, in his 16th year as coach. His teams have made 16 Final Four appearances and have won 14 state titles, including the last seven years in a row (2003-2009). Goldberg has a career record of 361-71.

For the girls, Park Vista’s Jamie Reeg was named the Player of the Year. Reeg finished the season with 81 goals, 30 assists, 132 groundball controls, 14 interceptions and 46 draw controls, leading her team to an 18-5 record and a spot in the state Final Four. She is Park Vista’s all-time career leader in goals (192), assists (88), groundballs (391), turnovers caused (126) and interceptions (57). In addition, Reeg was named the Palm Beach Post Player-of-the-Year and has signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Florida.
