Former St. Andrew’s RB Ben Dextor jumps to Benjamin

By Jason Lieser

St. Andrew’s coach George McCartin knew something unusual was happening when his top running back sat out spring practices, and he was right.

Ben Dextor, who was all-area honorable mention as a junior, has transferred and will play his senior season at Benjamin.

McCartin said he was unsure of the motivation behind Dextor’s move and was disappointed to see him leave.

“When he sat out spring football, that definitely caught me off-guard,” McCartin said. “In talking to his dad, he said it was a family decision.”

Dextor was a team captain for the Scots last season and rushed for 793 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries.

McCartin said he spoke with Benjamin coach Ron Ream after Dextor’s transfer and there is no ill will between the two programs. McCartin also said he is no holding a grudge against Dextor.

“He’s a great kid and it’s a great family,” McCartin said. “I hope everything works out there. There’s no hard feelings on my end.”
