The Mountaineers have been in the lead for Clark for the past two years and he was a fan of the team even before that.

“Ever since my ninth grade year I’ve been watching them on TV and I fell in love with them,” he said. “That’s where my heart is.”

Clark phoned West Virginia associate head coach Doc Holliday, who has had tremendous success recruiting this area, this morning to give his commitment.

If both commitments hold up, Clark will join Pahokee wide receiver Fred Pickett in Morgantown. Both of those players are originally from Belle Glade and have been friends most of their lives. They will face each other Week 3 in Pahokee.

“We grew up together,” Clark said. “Ever since we were little we’ve been playing.”

Clark (5-9, 160) is the area’s top-rated cornerback and is ranked No. 13 on The Big Board. He turned down offers from South Florida, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Purdue and others.

He was all-area and second team all-state as a junior.

Clark is the third Dwyer player to commit. Safety Matt Elam and linebacker Gerald Christian are pledged to Florida. Clark is the 10th player among the Big Board’s top 14 to commit.

All commitments are nonbinding until players sign letters of intent in February.
