Tennessee, Purdue chasing Miami commit Raheam Buxton

By Jason Lieser

Some rival fans laughed at Miami when the Hurricanes gambled by offering Pahokee safety Raheam Buxton, who saw little playing time last season, a scholarship in May. Apparently, Purdue and Tennessee did not think it was funny.

Both of those schools have recently followed Miami by offering Buxton (6-0, 175), but he said he remains firm on the commitment he gave the Hurricanes earlier this month.px121_0a64_91

“They were the first BCS team that wanted me and I always grew up liking Miami,” Buxton said, proudly sporting a green Hurricanes hat.

Buxton already knew Miami players Travis Benjamin, Randy Phillips and Damien Berry, and became friends with quarterback Jacory Harris during his unofficial visits to Coral Gables.

He also has offers from Southern Mississippi, Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Eastern Illinois.
