Former Santaluces coach Paul Meunier takes assistant position at Dwyer

By Jason Lieser

Three months after his sudden resignation as Santaluces’ head football coach, Paul Meunier joined Dwyer as the Panthers’ defensive backs coach.

Meunier spent the summer considering several opportunities, including the defensive coordinator position at Tampa-Steinbrenner, but ultimately was attracted to the opportunity to coach with Jack Daniels and one of the area’s most prominent staffs. Meunier also got a job teaching social studies and history at the school.

“I had all kinds of places I could have coached,” Meunier said. “With the success Dwyer’s had, that was a big draw and a big selling point for me.

“It’s a chance to work with Jack, who because of his success, has become a pretty well respected coach in the area. It’s the chance to work with a bunch of guys who are more about the kids and winning football games than they are about their own egos.”

Meunier, 30, also had spoken with Jupiter, Martin County and Park Vista about potential spots on their coaching staffs.

He resigned from Santaluces in April, five days before the team began spring practices. Meunier went 4-6 in one season as the Chiefs’ head coach.
