Former John I. Leonard playmaker Quadarius Mireles joins Atlantic

Quadarias Mireles, arguably the most talented player on John I. Leonard’s team in 2008, has transferred and will play his senior season for Atlantic.

Mireles (5-9, 170) played several skill positions for the Lancers last season and was honorable mention all-area. He rushed for 786 yards and seven touchdowns on 109 carries. He scored 12 total touchdowns, tied for 10th among big-school players.

He is expected to play wide receiver, joining an already loaded corps at that position, and defensive back for the Eagles.

John I. Leonard coach Wayne Monroe said he was disappointed to see Mireles leave but there was no rift between Mireles and the coaching staff.

“I’m really not sure why he left; that’s none of my concern,” Monroe said. “This county is notorious for kids going from one school to another.”
