Chris Dunkley admits to nerves before Pahokee debut

By Jason Lieser

It’s hard to believe the best wide receiver in the area, and one of the best in the nation, would ever be nervous, but Pahokee’s Chris Dunkley has a lot on his mind as the Blue Devils get ready to face Atlantic.

Dunkley caught 28 passes for 411 yards and was second team all-area last season with Royal Palm Beach. He transferred to Pahokee during the off-season and said he now has to prove himself to an entirely new fan base and he is anxious to do it.

“A little bit,” Dunkley said. “I can’t wait to get out there and show everybody that I’m the real deal. A lot of people see what I do at practice, so they have an idea, but when it counts, that’s when I’m really going to show it.”

Dunkley (6-0, 177, No. 3 on The Big Board) was the Wildcats’ best player last season and felt like he had unwavering fan support. In Pahokee, though, he believes the crowd will sour on him quickly if he does not live up to his reputation.

“When you’re doing good, they’re going to be with you and as soon as you mess up, they’re going to be on you for that,” Dunkley said. “It’s tough, but sometimes people need that. That’s the way college will be.

“We still have weapons, so its not like I can come out here and loaf. I really do have to earn my spot.”
