Local volleyball teams gear up for massive Orlando tournament

By Post Staff

John Carroll, No. 6 Park Vista, No. 4 Royal Palm Beach, No. 7 Spanish River, and No. 8 West Boca are going to get a really good idea of just how good they are in the early part of the season as the five are set to compete in a 48-team tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Orlando Sports Center.

West Boca, Spanish River, Royal Palm Beach, and Park Vista are in the Premier Division and one notable team in there with them is Timber Creek, which beat Royal Palm in last year’s state championship. So it’s possible there could be a rematch at some point.

Other schools in the Premier Division are Lake Highland, Boone, Northside Christian, Lake Howell, Holy Trinity, Douglas, Winter Park, Westminster Academy, North Broward Prep, Lake Mary and Riverview.

John Carroll is in the Classic Division with Gulf Coast, Titusville, Lake Gibson, Lake Brantley, Deltona, East River, Windermere Prep, Viera, Hudson, Archbishop McCarthy, Lake Region, Apopka, Deltona Trinity Christian, Nova, and Circle Christian.

Pool play begins on Friday and finishes midday on Saturday. The winner of each of the four pools in the three divisions moves on to bracket play until three winners are decided.

Oddly enough, Royal Palm Beach has never come out of this tournament with a winning record. To them, and undoubtedly everyone else, this serves as a major test against some major competition.
