National powers collide Friday in Fort Lauderdale

By Jason Lieser

If the local fare isn’t appealing enough, the top two teams in the country will meet Friday night at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, the nation’s top-rated team according to ESPN and USA Today, hosts No. 2 Byrnes (Duncan, S.C) at 8 p.m. The game also will be broadcast on ESPNU. The game will feature five players from the ESPNU 150 rankings.

Tickets are $12 and include the 4 p.m. undercard between Deerfield Beach and St. Cloud. St. Thomas Aquinas was hawking $40 “luxury boxes,” but they sold out. Tickets are available at the school.

Byrnes is a familiar name here in South Florida. The Rebels knocked off Glades Central 27-15 in 2006 on ESPN and beat Pahokee 38-12 last year.
