Miami commit Ismaila Dauda joins Grandview Prep

By Jason Lieser

Grandview Prep added one of the nation’s best players for the upcoming season and the scary news for everyone else is he’s only a junior.

Ismaila Dauda, a Nigerian-born post player committed to the Miami Hurricanes, and will play for the Pride this season. Dauda (6-9, 220) played for Miami-Choice Prep as a sophomore.

Grandview Prep coach Joe Dawson, who has seen Dauda in off-season open gym sessions, believes he will be one of area’s elite players this year.

“He’s a presence inside,” Dawson said. “He’s long. He blocks shots and rebounds. He’s a super kid for us.”

Based on several scouting reports online, it appears Dauda is also a decent outside shooter. Some of those sites list him as a sophomore, but Dawson said he is a junior.

Dawson said Dauda considered transferring to Fort Lauderdale-Cardinal Gibbons as well.

Boca Raton guard Eric Peterson (6-3, 185) also transferred to Grandview Prep. He is a senior this season. The Pride returns Colin Gates and Gardner Michel, among others, from a team that went 28-1 and lost to Orlando Christian Prep in the Class 1A state championship last season.
