UPDATED Tues., Oct. 13, 11:01 p.m.
Jessie Hester and Bill Powers confirmed Tuesday this week’s game has been bumped back to 6:30 p.m.
Instead of their standard 7:30 start times, the Glades Central Raiders will begin their remaining Friday home games at 6 p.m. The Muck Bowl, which most recently was set for a 5 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 14 at Glades Central, will now kickoff at 3 p.m., Raiders coach Jessie Hester said.
The Raiders played their home opener at 7:30, then moved up their next home date (vs. Clewiston) to 6 p.m.
Athletic Director Henry Cook said the change was made by the school’s administration and did not give a reason behind the decision.
Several players said Monday they were told the early starts are related to recent violence in the area near the school. There have been no confirmed incidents at football games.
The schedule changes have been somewhat of an issue this week. As of this morning, Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers was under the impression Friday’s game at Glades Central would start at 7:30 p.m.
Powers met with Hester late Monday to exchange film and said as of now the game is set for 6 p.m.
“I would rather play at 7:30 for a number of reasons,” he said. “It’s a little bit cooler at 7:30 at night and it gives our fans time to get out to the game.”
Heat likely will be even more of a factor in the Muck Bowl. Hester said the 3 p.m. start is not ideal, but he’ll cope.
“I have no problem with it,” he said. “I prefer it a little later, but whenever time they schedule it for, we’ll show up and play it.
Last year’s Muck Bowl, at Pahokee, was pushed from it’s typical Friday night time slot to a 1 p.m. start on the following Saturday.
