Key players could miss Glades Central vs. Jupiter Christian

By Jason Lieser

Among the catalogue of problematic matchups for Jupiter Christian, whose tallest non-lineman is only 6-foot-2, this week is the task of defending Glades Central’s 6-foot-6 receiver Kelvin Benjamin. That would be an almost impossible weapon for the Eagles to answer, but they might not have to.

Benjamin (knee) left Friday’s win over Boca Raton in the third quarter and is expected to be examined today. Raiders coach Jessie Hester said he hopes it is “just a sprain,” but even if it is, that could sideline Benjamin for a few weeks. Glades Central (6-0) is already without running back Antwon Chisholm, who has not practiced or played since injury his groin against Royal Palm Beach two weeks ago.

Believe it or not, though, the most significant injury issue leading up this game is the status of Jupiter Christian senior Danny Meyer.

Meyer starts at tight end, defensive end and does all the kicking. He injured his groin in the first half against Charlotte Christian and spent the rest of the night on crutches.

While Meyer is not the caliber of athlete of Chisholm or Benjamin, he is far less replaceable for his team. Jupiter Christian (5-1) only has 19 players on its varsity roster and there is not an obvious fill-in for Meyer’s workload.
