Health issue keeps King’s Academy coach Craig Dobson home

By Jason Lieser

King’s Academy football coach Craig Dobson missed Friday’s game against American Heritage due to illness. King’s Academy principal Sonya Jones said Dobson is home and resting, but it is unclear when he will return to the Lions.

“He’s not feeling well and felt it was best that he miss the game,” Jones said. “We’re giving some time to do that and we’re excited about him returning.”

Assistant coach Dan Smith was designated as the head coach in Friday’s 39-0 loss to American Heritage.

Athletic Director Adam Winters told The Post‘s Joe Kairalla that Dobson has been having heart problems.

Jones said the school is optimistic Dobson will be back coaching the team Monday, but no one at the school is rushing him to do so.

“We want to respect his concerns for his health,” she said.

Dobson, 49, is in his fifth year coaching the Lions and has a record of 29-12. They are 4-2 this season.
