Illness forces Benjamin to cancel game at American Heritage

By Post Staff

The game between Benjamin and American Heritage has been cancelled after more than half of Benjamin’s team fell ill with the flu this week. The cancellation will result in a forfeit win for American Heritage.

Both teams had agreed to postpone today’s game at American Heritage to Monday at 7 p.m. but Benjamin coach Ron Ream said they would make a final decision on the makeup game today.

“They don’t know how many will be back Monday and it’s a district week (next week) for us so they agreed to forfeit,” American Heritage coach Willie Bueno said.

About half of the students at Benjamin became ill following Homecoming last week. Ream said all of his players were healthy for last Friday’s game.

This is the second regular season game that has been cancelled due to a flu outbreak this year. Palm Beach Gardens cancelled its game against Royal Palm Beach on Sept. 18 after losing most of its team to the flu and injuries.
