Five teams sweep their way into region semifinals

Five teams in Classes 5A, 3A, and 1A survived the first day of region quarterfinals. The 6A, 4A, and 2A teams play tonight.

Spanish River beat Davie Nova 25-20, 25-11, 25-17 and earned the right to host St. Thomas Aquinas in the region semis next Tuesday. St. Thomas Aquinas beat Spanish River in three games on Oct. 21.

Martin County swept Melbourne 25-15, 25-16, 25-9 and will host South Fork, which beat Palm Bay 28-26, 25-14, 25-23. Martin County swept South Fork twice this season.

Summit Christian beat Covenant Christian 25-11, 25-16, 25-8 and will travel to Merritt Island Christian.

Lake Worth Christian beat Sheridan Hills Christian 25-11, 25-7, 25-5 and will host Highlands Christian.
