The Lou Groza committee announced its finalists for Palm Beach County Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Place-Kicker of the Year.

In total, 10 high school players and coaches are invited to the awards ceremony Dec. 8 at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. Tables are still available and can be purchased by calling (561) 233-3180.

Finalists were selected by a panel of more than 70 local representatives of the Palm Beach County high school football community, including head coaches and local media. They were chosen from an original pool of 25 nominees.

Here are the finalists in each category:

Player of the Year

Matt Elam, LB/RB, Dwyer, senior

Tre Mason, RB, Park Vista, junior

Will Powers, RB/LB, Jupiter Christian, senior

High School Place-Kicker of the Year

David Bicknell, Boca Raton, junior

Justin Haig, American Heritage, senior

Cody Parkey, Jupiter, senior

Sam Budnyk Coach of the Year

Jack Daniels, Dwyer

Jessie Hester, Glades Central

Bill Powers, Jupiter Christian

Park Vista’s Brian Dodds was a finalist for Coach of the Year, but committee chair Bill Davis said Dodds asked to be remove following his team’s on-field fight with Lake Worth on Nov. 13.

Elam and Daniels are looking for repeat wins in their respective categories. Hester and Parkey were finalists last season, but did not win.
