Glades Central star Greg Dent drops Miami, commits to FSU

By Jason Lieser

Three weeks after he got tired of waiting for Florida State and committed to Miami, Glades Central senior Greg Dent reversed course and said he will be a Seminole.

The biggest factor behind his switch was FSU’s willingness to bring him on as a wide receiver. Previously, Dent’s only major college offers were at cornerback.

“They offered me at receiver and I’ve been expecting that,” Dent said. “I didn’t want to play defense. They knew I wanted to play receiver, so they told me I could.”

As a receiver, Dent caught 35 passes for 899 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season. He also grabbed two interceptions and had a pair of special teams touchdowns.

Dent (5-11, 182, 4.6 in the 40-yard dash, No. 20 on The Big Board) said he called assistant coaches at FSU today to inform them of his decision.

“I think this is going to be final,” Dent said of choosing the Seminoles.

He had not spoken with the staff at Miami as of Thursday. Dent originally committed to the Hurricanes as a defensive back Nov. 1. The day he committed to Miami, Dent got an offer to play corner at Florida State, but said he was not interested.

He made an unofficial visit to the Seminoles in late October and plans to make an official trip once Glades Central concludes its season.

Dent is the fourth known de-commitment for the Raiders in the past two seasons. Last month, Antwon Chisholm backed out of his pledge to Oklahoma State and committed to Mississippi State. Last year, receiver Rantavious Wooten and offensive lineman Henry Orelus both de-committed from LSU and ultimately signed with Georgia and Florida State, respectively.
