Jupiter’s Charlie Persson to return for 30th season

By Jason Lieser

Jupiter football coach Charlie Persson said he will return in 2010 and plans to coach at least one more season after that as well.

Persson, who is 162-167 in his 29 years with the Warriors, said he is excited about the current sophomore class and would like to coach that group through graduation.

“I really believe we have a chance to be a pretty good football team next year,” he said. “The sophomore class, I think, is pretty special. I’ll wait and see.”

Jupiter’s last playoff appearance came in 2004 and the team is 5-15 over the past two seasons.

This year, the Warriors went 2-8 with wins over Royal Palm Beach and Centennial.

“It was a tough year,” Persson said. “We just couldn’t hold leads. I really wouldn’t want to go out on a 2-8 season.

“We switched offenses after three games, went to a totally different offensive scheme. I thought the coaches and the kids did a remarkable job.”
