Sarah Wickstrom, Elise Walch win state players of the year; Mike Sawtelle, Marty Bielicki earn coaches honors

The Florida Dairy Farmers announced the six finalists for the Miss Volleyball award and Sarah Wickstrom of Jensen Beach (4A) and Elise Walch of Martin County (5A) won the state players of the year for their classifications.

Their coaches, Mike Sawtelle of Jensen Beach and Marty Bielicki, also received coach of the year honors for their classifications after both led their teams to state titles.

Wickstrom and Walch both dominated at their positions en route to state championships. Wickstrom, a junior who is already committed to Florida State, had 856 assists, 101 kills, 73 digs, 71 blocks, and 63 aces this season.

Walch, a senior who is signed with Wisconsin, had 539 kills, 63 digs, 151 blocks, 31 aces and five assists. She also was named a First Team All-American.

Other winners included Maddie Martin of Tampa Plant (6A), Jordan Burgess of Tampa Berkeley Prep (3A), Kelly Meredith of Orlando First Academy (2A), and Amber Wyborny of Warner Christian (1A). Winning coaches were Vanessa Tress of Warner Christian (1A), Michele Moreman of Orlando First Academy (2A), Randy Dagostino of Tampa Berkeley Prep (3A), and Leanna Taylor of Tampa Plant (6A).

Locals receiving votes were Boca Raton coach Amanda Angermeier and Lake Worth Christian coach Terri Kaiser.
