Jeff Luc on his Florida State commitment

By Jason Lieser

Amid talk of possible coaching changes at Florida, Florida State solidified its near future by (finally) giving Jimbo Fisher full authority.

Both of those issues had an effect on Treasure Coast linebacker Jeff Luc’s decision to commit to the Seminoles on Saturday, but to different extents.

When legendary FSU coach Bobby Bowden announced his retirement last week, Luc said the Seminoles would have an easier time landing recruits now that everyone knew Fisher was the boss. Meanwhile, Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong’s candidacy for head coaching positions, gave Luc doubts about picking the Gators.

“I’m not too sure how long Charlie Strong is going to be there,” Luc said. “I don’t want to go there being the coach’s guy and then he goes to another school.”

Gators coach Urban Meyer was on Treasure Coast’s sideline during the Titans’ first-round playoff game against Seminole Ridge and his staff made a strong pitch, but Luc was uncomfortable with the uncertainty.

His other finalist was Southern Cal, but he decided it was too far from home.

Luc (6-1, 240, No. 2 on The Big Board) grew up in Miami but said the Seminoles always have been one of his favorite teams.

“I liked them when I was younger and I didn’t want to go to another school regretting that I didn’t go to Florida State,” he said. “Everybody’s going to get the same the opportunity to play under the new coach.”

Luc does not plan to take additional visits. He said he still is on track to graduate at the end of this semester and intends to enroll at Florida State in January so he can participate in spring practices.

With Luc choosing Florida State, 23 of the area’s top 25 recruits have committed.
