New York Times: NCAA interviews Chris Dunkley in Tennessee investigation

By Jason Lieser

Just got a Tweet from New York Times sports editor Tom Jolly about his paper’s story on an NCAA investigation into Tennessee’s recruiting methods.

The Times reported the NCAA has interviewed four high school prospects being recruited by the Volunteers and plans to speak with at least two more. Officials visited with Pahokee’s Chris Dunkley at his home Tuesday.

One of the key issues mentioned in the article is Tennessee’s alleged use of “recruiting hostesses” to land recruits. Pretty interesting details reported on that topic.

Tennessee confirmed the investigation and Dunkley acknowledged the NCAA’s visit, but both declined comment to the Times in its initial report.

Volunteers Athletic Director Mike Hamilton acknowledged the investigation in a statement Wednesday. Click here for the Times‘ follow-up story.

The articles do not imply that Dunkley or any other recruit is in facing possible punishment.

Since Tennessee hired coach Lane Kiffin last year, the program has been found guilty of six recruiting violations, though none were substantial.
