Cocoa beats Glades Central for 2A title

Cocoa overcame an early deficit and took down Glades Central 27-13 in the Class 2A state championship at the Florida Citrus Bowl in front of 7,466 fans.

The Raiders led 13-3 early in the second quarter, but Cocoa (14-0) overtook the Raiders with two touchdowns during a 10-second span during in the second quarter.

Running back Chevelle Buie scored on a 62-yard run with 8:24 left before halftime.

Quarterback L.J. Thomas threw an interception on Glades Central’s ensuing play and Cocoa defensive back Antonio Wallace returned it 28 yards for a touchdown.

The Raiders jumped out to a 13-3 lead on a pair of touchdowns by running back Antwon Chisholm.

Chisholm capped Glades Central’s opening drive with an 8-yard touchdown run and caught a 17-yard pass from Thomas to score in the second quarter.

Thomas completed 12 of 21 passes for 197 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in the first half. Chisholm ran for 18 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

The Raiders (13-1) were seeking their seventh state championship and first since 2006.
