Pahokee’s Raheam Buxton not going to Miami

By Jason Lieser

Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson said safety Raheam Buxton no longer has a scholarship offer from the University of Miami.

Buxton, who committed to the Hurricanes in July, has some academic issues to resolve, but Thompson is confident he will be qualified and cleared by the NCAA.

A source said the Hurricanes knew they were pulling Buxton’s offer at least a month ago.

With Miami out of the picture, Buxton’s only other solid offer is from Western Michigan. He visited the campus last weekend and it appears to be a likely destination for him.

Buxton (6-1, 180, No. 35 on The Big Board) has not commented specifically on losing his Miami offer, but said earlier this week he had not heard from the coaching staff in a while and was considering other options.

At times, Buxton has claimed offers from Tennessee, Kansas and Purdue, but none of those materialized.
