Fred Pickett, coach confirm commitment to Marshall

By Jason Lieser

Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson said Marshall coaches were on campus today and firmed up another new commitment: wide receiver Fred Pickett.

“Marshall was in today and he says he’s going to Marshall,” Thompson said.

Pickett committed to West Virginia last year, but changed his mind when Marshall hired assistant coaches Doc Holliday and Jajuan Seider. Holliday is now the head coach and Seider, a former Glades Central player, is recruiting South Florida for the Thundering Herd.

Pickett also told Rivals.com, “”I am solid to Marshall. That is where I am going, period.”
There were rumors of Pickett switching to Marshall two weeks ago, but his father denied them. The same thing happened last year with his West Virginia commitment.

Pickett (5-11, 170, No. 19 on The Big Board) mostly played running back for Pahokee last season and rushed for 1,142 yards and nine touchdowns on only 109 carries.

With Pickett committed, it appears Marshall will land at least two players from this year’s senior class. Boca Raton quarterback Eddie Sullivan is committed as well.

Glades Central safety Travis Bell is committed to the Thundering Herd, but shortly after making that decision public, he said he was “50-50″ between Marshall and West Virginia.

There also have been reports of commitments by American Heritage wide receiver Darius Millines and Glades Central running back Antwon Chisholm. Chisholm said he is not committed to any school and Millines has not commented publicly on his status.

All commitments are non-binding. No player is locked into a school until he signs a national letter of intent. The first day seniors can sign is Feb. 3, national signing day.
