Mike Ruiz sold on South Dakota

By Jason Lieser

Not many people prefer a trip to South Dakota over a visit to New York City, but Dwyer cornerback Mike Ruiz fell in love with The Mount Rushmore State.

Ruiz, who has been in talks with several small schools, committed to South Dakota this week and plans to sign with the program Wednesday.

Ruiz (5-9, 160, 4.52, No. 43 on The Big Board) was an all-area wide receiver as a junior for Inlet Grove and last season was second-team all-area at corner.

He also played wide receiver for Dwyer, catching 12 passes for 285 yards and five touchdowns while helping the Panthers win the Class 4A state championship.

South Dakota signed Seminole Ridge quarterback Tyler Wilhelm last February.

All commitments are non-binding. No player is locked into a school until he signs a national letter of intent. The first day seniors can sign is Feb. 3, national signing day.
