De’Joshua Johnson says he will sign with Florida State (or LSU)

By Jason Lieser

De’Joshua Johnson will play the recruiting game as long as he can. He has been committed to Florida State since last summer, but has taken every possible opportunity to milk his recruitment for more attention.

Johnson said Monday he wore Alabama gear, but is sticking to his commitment.

“I plan on signing with Florida State,” he said.

If not FSU, Johnson said LSU is next choice. When asked if the Seminole should be concerned about him, he said, “I don’t know,” and added that he will not be taking calls from any schools today.

Every time he talks about recruiting, Johnson seems to alternate between deep devotion to FSU and wistfully gazing at other programs.

Johnson (5-10, 163, 4.37, No. 11 on The Big Board) is one of the area’s top recruits as a receiver, even though he played quarterback most of last season. He threw for 964 yards and seven touchdowns, ran for 176 and three, and caught 21 passes for 383 yards and two touchdowns.

As a junior, Johnson caught 26 passes for 489 yards and five touchdowns.

All commitments are non-binding. No player is locked into a school until he signs a national letter of intent. The first day seniors can sign is tomorrow, national signing day.
